Shinhan helps immigrants

Mexico has experienced growth in the number of Venezuelan people arriving and deciding to settle in the country. According to figures from the National Institute of Migration (INM), the Venezuelan population holding a valid migration document has increased by 45.86% from 2019 to March 2021. Working hand in hand with this institution, we managed to support more than 200 Venezuelan immigrants.

Purpose of project: To show solidarity with the difficult situation these people are going through, being far from their home country.
Activities: Shinhan Bank of Mexico, together with Good Neighbors, prepared food, drinks, and desserts to feed the immigrant people who are here as refugees.

According to the latest study by CONEVAL (National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy), between 2018 and 2022, the percentage of the population in a situation of multidimensional poverty at the national level decreased from 41.9% to 36.3%, which represented a change from 51.9 to 46.8 million people in a situation of poverty at the national level. Additionally, the number of people living on the streets increased in 2 years from 17.3 to 21.9 million (26.58%). The 2022 Census accounted for 5,705 people in a situation of homelessness: 48.1% were in shelters or refuges, and 51.9% were living on the streets. Therefore, we seek to support them in their difficult situation by providing them with food and clothing.

Purpose of project: To provide food and clothing to those people living on the streets.

Shinhan helps you go to school

Girls and boys living on the streets are individuals under 18 years old without a home, with broken family ties due to instability in their families of origin. In some cases, they have been abandoned by their families, and in other cases, they themselves decided to leave. They eat, sleep, work, make friends, play on the streets, and have no other choice but to fight for their lives in solitude. According to studies conducted by the National School of Social Work (ENTS), four out of ten girls and boys living on the streets fall into addictions with different substances and into the hands of delinquency; furthermore, statistics indicate that their life expectancy is reduced.

Purpose of project: To provide financial support for the purchase of uniforms so they can continue their studies, as well as to participate in activities with the children and donate items such as backpacks, school supplies, and other materials.
Activities: Delivering financial support to a foster home in Monterrey and purchasing backpacks, school supplies, and materials for 65 children.

Shinhan gives the light of life

Every year, more than 6,000 children in Mexico are diagnosed with cancer. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, followed by brain tumors and lymphomas. More than 90% of children with cancer in Mexico require surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy as part of their treatment. More than 60% of children with cancer in Mexico lack social security. Three out of four cases of childhood cancer are detected at advanced stages.

Purpose of project: To support the foundation in its fight against childhood cancer.
Activities: All employees of Shinhan Bank of Mexico participate in collecting plastic bottle caps to donate them to Luz de Vida.

Bank EGS Report

Shinhan Bank published the <2021-2022 ESG Report> to transparently disclose its sustainable ESG activities and performance.

This is the second report following the publication of the first ESG report by a commercial bank in Korea in December 2021 for communication with various stakeholders.

Since 2013, Shinhan has been the only bank to publish an environmental report, and in December 2021, the environmental report was expanded and reorganized to share ESG activities and performance across the bank.

In this report, the ESG Highlight was separately organized to clearly summarize the key performance of E, S.G, and the Climate Finance Report and Human Rights Report were included together to reflect the response to climate change and human rights issues, which have recently increased interest.
